Chandigarh, Aug 5: Ballot strategist Prashant Kishor Thursday resigned as Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's principal advisor, saying he was taking "a short lived break from energetic function in public life".

Kishor's transfer comes with meeting polls in Punjab lower than a 12 months away.

Kishor had managed the Congress' profitable marketing campaign within the 2017 polls.

In a letter to the chief minister Thursday, Kishor wrote, "In view of my determination to take a short lived break from energetic function in public life, I've not been in a position to take over the duties as your Principal Advisor.

"Since I'm but to determine on my future plan of action, I write to request you to kindly relive me from this duty. I take this chance to thanks for contemplating me for this place," he wrote.

The chief minister had in March appointed Kishor as his principal advisor and given him the rank and standing of a cupboard minister.

A notification issued by the Normal Administration Division had mentioned Kishor would take a token honorarium of Re 1.
