Rishabh Pant has been accused of lying by the fans following his captaincy blunder during the game between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians on Saturday (IPL 2022). Pant’s decision to not take DRS against Tim David in the must-win clash proved very costly for him and his side as Mumbai Indians thrashed their Delhi counterparts by 5 wickets to dump them out of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2022 (IPL 2022).

Asked to bat first in the must-win clash, Delhi scored 159 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Mumbai made a slow start and were reeling at 95 for 3 in the 15th over. With more than 60 runs remaining in just over 5 overs for Mumbai Indians, Delhi were well on top.

In the same over, they got another chance to strengthen their grip on the match but they blew it thanks to their captain’s decision. On the fourth ball of the 15th over, David, while facing the first ball of his innings, edged the ball behind the stumps.

The Delhi fielders appealed for a caught behind but the on-field umpire gave his decision in the favour of the batsman. Pant had the chance to go upstairs as Delhi had both their reviews left but he decided otherwise only to realise his mistake soon.

The 24-year old was seen shaking his head in disappointment after the replays on the giant screen confirmed that David had indeed edged the ball. David then went on to play a match-winning cameo.

The in-form batsman smashed 34 off just 11 balls with the help of 2 fours and 4 sixes to completely change the course of the game. He also shared a 50-run stand off just 20 balls with Tilak Verma as Delhi paid a huge price for their captain’s blunder.

By the time Delhi managed to dismiss David, the equation was down to 15 off 14 balls before Ramandeep Singh finished the job for Mumbai on the first ball of the 20th over.

Rishabh Pant caught lying:

Following the conclusion of the game, Rishabh Pant was asked about his DRS blunder during the post-match presentation. In reply, Pant said that he felt something from David’s bat but decided not to take the review after consulting his teammates. Pant insisted that his teammates were not convinced and so he decided against going upstairs.

“I thought there was something. Everyone standing in the circle wasn’t convinced and at the end I didn’t go up,” said Pant.

A viral video, however, suggests otherwise. The video which is doing the rounds on social media shows Sarfaraz Khan trying his best to convince Pant to take the DRS. Pant, however, decides otherwise and threw the ball back to the bowler before walking back to his position.
